Nikon D300S Excellent.
I have upgraded from d90 due to the dual card capability and the faster frame per second. I'm very happy with the performance. However, the function of the preview next/previous image using main command dial is not exist anymore. D90, D80, and D300 have the ability to scroll through images using the main command dial.
Nikon D300S First Digital SLR
This is my first digital SLR. I must admit it has sometimes been a little overwhelming, but I've gotten great pictures right from the start. I've had it for almost 2 months now and I am still playing around with it and learning about the features of this camera. I use this camera for outdoor wildlife and for indoor sporting events. I have not been disappointed in its performance. One of the more difficult things for me to settle on has been the various focusing options - and which to use in any particular situation. But one of the great things about the camera is the ease of changing the various options, like focus mode, so that you can easily experiment with different settings to see which works best. If you are looking for a great digital SLR, I highly recommend this one.
Nikon D300S Very good.
This is an excellent camera. It is so flexible to use with the ability to quickly change shooting conditions such as ISO, Focus, WB and other parameters without going to the menu. The pictures at the high end of the ISO range 2500 to 3200 are very good.
The quality of the pictures at 12MP are outstanding.
As well, the 18 to 200mm VR lens is excellent and produces great handheld images under difficult conditions such as speed and low light level.
Great camera, a bit heavy and complex for the average user. If you want a superb camera, this is it.
Nikon D300S Great Outdoors Camera
I have been interested in photography since the old film slr days. After graduating from the p&s cameras, I moved to the D60 upon its introduction. I feel like I mastered that camera and decided to move up. After much research, I decided on the D300s.
The camera was delivered yesterday. I ended up staying awake all night playing with the camera. It is heavy and well built, and when you look at it, you know it is a real camera! When you pick one up, you know it isn't some point & shoot. This camera is a serious piece of equipment. My 18-200 f/3.5 VRII seems to love this camera. AF is super fast, and just "feels right" on the D300s.
Now, there is going to be a big learning curve between me and this camera. As my wife said, "There are a lot of buttons, knobs and stuff" on the camera. Just read the manual. For my money, this is an excellent camera and am very glad I purchased it.
Nikon D300S Camera A truly phenominal piece of equipment.
This camera is amazing. Auto-focus, blazing fast and always accurate. I don't know how it does it, but it nails the focus every time no matter what I'm shooting. With other camera I would always you center-point AF and focus and recompose. With the D300s I leave it on auto-area and get perfect focus every time. High iso, one of the best in it's class, better than any Canon cropped sensor camera, and equal to Nikon's own D90/D5000. This thing is built like a tank, it's tough and will last you for years to come unless you throw it in the middle of a highway. It's shoots more frames per second then I will ever need, but if you're serious about sports photography this camera is for you. The image quality is best in it's class. Compared to the Canon 7D the Nikon D300s gives sharper pictures with less noise and great detail over iso 400. The 7D photos to my eye looked too "digital" and processed. Where the D300s always gives a natural film like quality to it's images. The color, contrast, sharpness, and exposure all seem much better to me on the D300s than the 7D.
Then only downside to this camera is the video. Like all DSLRs that can shoot video, it can't auto-focus while shooting making it useless for all but the most hardcore video experts and film makers. It also suffers from "rolling shutter" while shooting video, but I don't really care because I don't buy picture camera to shoot video, I buy them to take pictures. No other camera beats the D300s in this price range at this time in my honest opinion.
Nikon D300S Camera
I am an advanced beginner. Have a Nikon D50 and the D300s is an addition and an upgrade - tried some shooting indoors with it - terrific results. Great camera! Still learning to use it fully though...If my experience with the D50 is any indication, then the D300s will also be fulfilling and satisfying!
Nikon D300S Best Price, Delivers As Advertised.
I've had my eye on the D300s for quite sometime now and after finally getting one, I can say without a doubt that this camera is quite simply spectacular. It has yet to disappoint me and I seriously doubt it will...ever.
My first day of testing was at a local horse track and it lived up to the billing in it's ability to capture the fast action on the track. I used a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 for the majority of the day and I was very pleased with the results of the two. I see very little if any difference in terms of overall quality in the Sigma over the Nikkor. Matched with the D300s, it's a shooters dream.
The only setback I have encountered so far is user related in having to overcome the feeling of being overwhelmed by all of the features that the D300s provides. If you shot a lesser amateur model such as the D60, this is really a step up and you will be challenged in terms of shot composition and camera settings. There is no Auto mode or a dial for Sports or what have you. So, really it makes you become a better photographer because you have to learn how set the camera for the best results. I really like this aspect.
I could get into details, but there are many others here who do a better job of that so I will just say that I really like this camera very much and am proud to be an owner of another fantastic product from Nikon.

Nikon D300S Best Price, Impressed
First, I did not buy this for video. I am a photographer. If video was my main concern then I would have bought a video camera. The rolling shutter issue commonly mentioned does happen but only when moving or shaking the camera so fast it would make anyone watching the video dizzy or sick. I have played with the video for the fun of it and non of the videos have had the rolling shutter issue so I really don't think it is much of a problem. I would like to see video dropped so that real useful functions can be added like built-in GPS, voice memos, and built-in wireless data transfer just to name a few.
Without getting long winded in trying to explain every technical detail I can tell you that this camera will offer incredible creative control. My D300s replaced a D200 and I am in awe at the improvements the D300s has over the D200. The two cameras are not even a close comparison. The D300s is faster in every category and has great high iso noise reduction, especially for a DX sized sensor.
I shoot a lot of winter sports and the D300s has great battery life in cold weather. I am also happy with how quick and accurate the autofocus tracks a fast moving subject. I should mention though that autofocus is noticeably slower when using a Sigma or Tamron lens. The Nikon lenses are lightning fast.
All the controls are logically placed and understandable. The menu is incredibly easy to navigate. I especially like how well you can customize nearly every button on the camera to do what ever suits your needs.
Another feature I like is how well it controls multiple flash units. This handles the Nikon Creative Lighting System with precision. I could keep rambling on about how much I am enjoying the D300s but I am tired and will stop here.
I would highly recommend this camera! It makes me smile every time I use it.
Nikon D300S Best Price, Superior to most camera bodies in this class
This is a very good body, it is very important to learn how to use it. I HIGHLY recommend this body as a DX (APS-C) platform, the only advise I can give you is to read the manual cover to cover. This camera has quite a few advanced shooting capabilities and it can take a little time to get used to all the features and where they are in the extensively deep menu system. I would say that the only downfall is the high ISO performance, although for an APS-C sensor it does very well it is still an APS-C sensor and thus has limitations at higher ISO.
Nikon D300S Best Buy, Good Camera.
I bought this camera in october 2009, and took it right with me on a road travel thru Tanzania. I read all the reviews from ppl who found it useless to upgrade from a D300 to this D300s. I can agree on those comments, but if you do not have a D300, but lets say a D80 (like i did), then this will be an upgrade wich realy brings you much more. I took this camera with me thru rough weather, exposed it to rain (without soaking it), faced dusty dry regions, and brought it back home without one single failure/ problem. Ofcourse it is not all about the camera, the making of pictures start with the lens, the camera itself is just the tool to make the best out of the light, and this body did the job for me.
I did not buy it because of the HD video function, but i used it a lot to film some wildlife, and must say i am very satisfied with the results. Full HD would have brought this camera a level higher, no arguing on that.
I am very satisfied with the picture quality wich ofcourse can't go without the use of a good photo shopping programm if you work with RAW. I do use Lightroom and CS4 to get to my results and get the results i want.
Nikon D300S Best Buy, Excellent camera
Takes supior pictures. Sharpness and color very good. Easy to approach still maintaining the many options such a camera should have. The only drawback I have noticed - it will take picture immediately when you push the shutter to the bottom even if it has not finished perfect focus.
I have just upgraded to this camera from Nikon D70 and is very satisfied the camera is worth every cent.
Nikon D300S Best Buy, Great Camera, Very Pleased
I received this camera about a week or two ago and have so far been very pleased. I owned a D40x for the longest time and that was a wonderful intro DSLR (and have yet to really see the same quality in the D3000 or D5000 even though they may have more features). After being only ok'd by the D90 which lasted a few weeks before encountering the fatal F-- Error this camera has been very solid and without a hint of an issue.
The camera is a bit heavier, but you're moving into a more solid body compared to the intros and and even the middle grade D90. The ability to use remote flashes and take easily 6fps shots without thinking is wonderful. The 3D tracking system if you adjust the autofocus refresh time is amazing. This is the first camera that I've been wow'd with in a long time. I considered Canon's 50d and even looked highly at the 7d, but the D300s just felt like it was easier to control and easier to work with overall.
